Hall of Mercy (HOM), one of the popular auditorium in FUTO was filled to the brim with students ranging from freshmen, sophomores, 300L, and 400L students from School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) as it held its annual Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) orientation program with the theme: “Industrial Training: a bedrock for Engineering” on Wednesday 18th March, 2015.

Present at the program were: Engr. Dr. Mrs. Eze (HOD, EEE); Prof. Nwadiko (HOD, AGE); Dr. C. N. Nwobodo (HOD, MME); Associate Dean of SEET; Mr. Chilakpu (SEET SIWES Cordinator); Engr. P. C. Agu (MME) and a host of other lecturers from various departments in SEET.
Welcoming all present, Dr. Mrs. Eze said “I am delighted to be in this program organized by the SEET SIWES unit for all Engineering students of FUTO”; she also called on the students to listen attentively to what the speakers and moderators will tell them.
Furthermore, HOD AGE also spoke on the issue of Industrial Training Scheme where he defined an Engineer as “a person who uses God created natural resources for the benefits of man”. The SIWES Coordinator from PET also spoke on the importance of asking questions during Industrial Training.
Mr. Ibekwe and his colleague representing FUTO SIWES Coordinator took their time to explain to the students what the Industrial Training Seminar is all about, where to apply for an Industrial Training, how to fill the log books and other forms that accompany the Industrial Training Scheme.
Similarly, the guest speaker Engr Nwabueze Akobuwa also spoke extensively on what Industrial Training Scheme is all about. He started by reminiscing with a feeling of nostalgia his undergraduate days as an Industrial Trainee. Finally, he urged the students to join various Engineering discussion groups online and to form networks of agreeable minds other than sentiments.
Highpoint of the program was: the open forum for questions and answers and the light refreshment that was served to the students.
Before the vote of thanks, Mr. Chilakpu informed the students that the issues of writing “Term Paper” or “Technical Reports” have been abolished by the school authorities. Dr. Izuwa finally gave the vote of thanks which brought the program to an end with a closing prayer. Attendance of all present was taken after the program. THE END.
Long Live MME!
