GET A SKILL

There is something so spectacular about the beginning of a new week. It comes with all forms of seriousness, dedication and its own unexplained stress.
On Mondays and Tuesdays, all hands are on deck to achieve a common goal. For those who are working, you dare not come late to work or dress haphazardly on such days. You must have to look smart! Same goes with those in the business sector. After the weekend rest, activities commences in earnest on Mondays.

Over here as usual, we shall all gather at our various lecture rooms, sit in front of the lecturer, pay attention and listen attentively as the lecturer makes some magic on the white board and explains some theories which are esoteric for us to store in our brains since they are necessary to pass the examinations. Lols. You just have to learn those esoteric theories.
Take a look at the photo below, you will see students dressed in different attires ready for lectures which is more like a normal routine.
Looking at their faces, you will see the zeal to succeed. The zeal to accomplish a lifelong goal. The zeal to study and pass in flying colours. The zeal to graduate and leave the institution for good.
Everyday, we keep learning the same thing but in different ways. We keep garnering theoretical knowledge with little or no practical experience. In as much as we need the basic theoretical knowledge, we also need to diversify.
There is a big difference between what you can write on paper and what you do with your hands. The difference is clear!
It is quite possible to see a student graduate with a first class in Mechanical Engineering without knowing the basic difference between a 'spanner' and a 'screwdriver'. Or maybe a first class Electrical Engineering student that cannot construct a simple electrical circuit. Or a Computer science student that cannot write a simple program to display "Hello world" on a screen. Sadly as it may seem, but it is true.
Why am I saying all these?
The world has gone beyond the grades you have on your certificates. Skills acquisition is very necessary and essential to survive in the today's labour market. There is a need to be an entrepreneur when a white collar job is not forthcoming (note: not everybody can become an entrepreneur).
As a student, aside the usual theoretical knowledge you learn in the lecture room, what else can you do with your hands? What skills do you have? What skills can you boast of?
Your certificate can get you a job, but your skills will elevate you among your mates.
Gone are the days when the nation was in dire need of labour force. The labour market of today is highly competitive. You need a skill to survive!
Over here, I have some student-friends who are doing marvelous well. Most of them have looked beyond the frontier and have seen the need to diversify.
Some are into networking, programming, photography, digital marketing, freelance writers, content developers, journalism, artistic drawings and paintings, graphics designs etc. While some are business inclined.
Go get a skill today!
