2016 NAMMES EXCURSION TO KOGI STATE

The National Association of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Students, Federal University of Technology, Owerri embarked on a three day field trip to Nigerian Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO), Itakpe and Ajaokuta Steel Company all in Kogi State from May 17th to 20th, 2016 . They trip was planned by the Zealous NAMMES Executives in conjunction with the immediate NAMMES National President, Comr. Owums Henry. It was a wonderful experience for the students as it helped to incorporate the practical and real life experiences with the theoretical knowledge obtained in lecture halls. It will be noted that the field trip was the first of its kind in FUTO. Although there were many setbacks during the trip because it wasn’t an easy task moving from the east to the north, but we give thanks to God for his guidance and protection throughout the period of the field trip.

During the course, we were opportune to visit the mine where the iron ore were deposited naturally.  The students were also opportune to see various samples like quartz, iron ore feldspar, coke, coal, limestone etc. We also saw a blast furnace and we were taught the basic operation of a blast furnace. The Excursion was fun-filled and several students have their own wonderful testimonies. There was an online campaign during the period of the field trip with the tag #Kogi2016 on the social media. Finally, we came back through a night journey due to the delay in time. We thank GOD for His protection and guidance so far.

  1. Hello bro awesome write up. I don't believe in coincidences but you wouldn't believe my parents probably worked in this company all through their lives. I thought the place had a lot of financial problems and needed government bail out.
    Keep the good work.
