Happy New Month!!!
HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!
My dear friends, with a heart inundating with joy I welcome you to a very special month in the lives of catholic faithfuls. The month of MAY is synonymous with the Catholic MAY devotion. It is a month dedicated to our Blessed Virgin Mary as the "Queen of May".
In his 1965 encyclical, 'Mense Maio', Pope Paul VI identified the month of May as a special month to incorporate special prayers in honour of our Blessed Virgin Mary(BVM). May devotion in the actual sense is a period when Catholics offer the BVM special honor by visiting some Marian shrines, churches dedicated to her and especially a more attentive recitation of the Holy Rosary daily.
The last day of the month(May31st) is usually followed by a solemn procession during which a statue of our Lady is being carried around as we recite the decades of the rosary meditatively. Activities for the May devotion usually includes: singing of Marian hymns and songs, daily recitation of the Rosary, readings from the scriptures, sermon, talks on our lady, benediction etc. May devotion can also be done in the house as a family devotion but it is advice we do it in the community of christian brethren(Church).
Many Catholics don't really understand the efficacy and power in May devotion. Mary is an eschatological icon of the church and ever since I was born, I have not seen where our lady failed those who put their trust in her. Mary is our spiritual mother and She has a role to play in our salvation. It irks me when I see non-catholics rendering abuses and mocking our Blessed Virgin Mary. I won't condemn them but I pray that our Lady will help them understand the effects of their actions. I rest my case!
I earnestly pray for all those who will devote their time during this MAY devotion, that our Lady will intercede on their behalf and grant them their heart desires.
Once again,
HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!!
